AI

A.R.T.:

Re AI,

There’s a race going on between companies and between countries to be the first to develop AI for fear that the competition will beat them to the finish line – wherever and whatever that might be.

As this is taking place, everyone has an interest in making sure that there are ethical and financing protections as this new technology develops.

Many of the leaders in this field, including those with the tech companies engaged in this race, support developing a rational, human-based regulatory framework for dealing with the many complicated issues involved with AI - from liability, public-interest access, and setting up a transparent mechanism for who pays for it.

There is clearly enormous potential here, but the objective must be to serve the human public – not a few oligarchs.

We can start by insisting that all of the data centers pay for all of the costs, including environmental costs, associated with their construction, maintenance, operations and the need for retraining programs for those workers displaced by the very tools they build or use.

Sincerely,
